There are no mistakes in art!

Arts Afterschool is a local, independent, non-profit dedicated to providing high quality, professional after school art classes to children ages 5 and up.

We recently celebrated our 10th year and have many long standing, positive partnerships with several Chapel Hill schools and other locations, such as Willow Oak Montessori, Coco Bean Coffee Shop and the Briar Chapel Clubhouse.

We are committed to excellence and strive to deliver the very best after school art enrichment possible to our students. Learn more About Us

Our gentle, step-by-step method of instruction is designed to help children bloom creatively while learning the fundamentals of art in a calm, friendly environment; free of judgment and competition.

Classes for grades K-5 are one hour in length and take place one day per week at the locations listed on our Arts Afterschool page.

Got Tweens? Aging out is no longer a problem! Kids ages 12-15 absolutely love learning to paint with Miss Kim. Monthly classes take place at Coco Bean Coffee Shop (Chapel Hill) and at The Briar Chapel Clubhouse (for residents only). No previous experience is necessary!

Check out our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about our style of teaching.

We teach children how to draw animals, people, landmarks, popular characters, flowers,  insects, mythical creatures and much more.

See our Student Artwork Gallery and read Parent Testimonials to see what the fuss is all about. :-)

All art materials are provided for every class.

All seats are available on a first come, first served basis.

There are four 8-week sessions of classes at each location from September to May each year.

Unless otherwise noted, each session of classes contains 8 classes.

For the first session your child joins, payment in full is due at the time of reservation/registration.

Additional sessions may be reserved with a $25 deposit per child, per session. The balance payment is due before the start date of each reserved session. Deposits are non-refundable but they are transferable. See our payment policies to learn more.

We teach our students how to draw animals, people, landmarks, popular characters (and much more) with a black permanent marker on acid-free art paper.

Each week, artwork is finished using a variety of high quality art materials; oil pastels, watercolor paint, markers, colored pencils, chalk pastel, etc.

Every student draws each line on his/her own paper by following along one-step-at-time.

Our proven “no mistakes in art” approach to drawing empowers our students with a creative problem solving mindset.

In our classes, just the right balance on structure and guidance is offered while individual interpretation is encouraged. The results are as unique and wonderful as the children are themselves. Check our our Student Art Gallery to see for yourself! :-)

Each session offers all new art lessons. New students will love learning to draw from the first lesson, and returning students enjoy refining their skills.
